ASSESSING NAPSTER'S FILTERING EFFORTS
Several technical experts have reviewed Napster's file filtering process and found it to be inadequate. They note that filtering by name is bound to fail and that a better approach would be to target the MD5 hash - a digital checksum that identifies all duplicate files.
