PC Music Listening Data May Be Tracked, Sold
Gracenote, a company that specializes in music recognition technology, said it can track the compact discs people listen to on their personal computers. According to Gracenote, when someone plays a CD on their computer using a media player that has the company's music recognition service embedded in it, the name of the song or album can be logged in a database. Gracenote is looking to collect and sell this lucrative PC-based music listening through its Gracenote Data Services division.
